Somewhere along the way you may have decided you are the exception — that grace is real for people who have not done what you have done, gone where you have gone, or stayed as long as you stayed. That the distance is too great. That too much has happened. That you have used up whatever God was willing to extend.
That is not what the scripture says.
Paul lists everything that could theoretically separate a person from the love of God — death, life, angels, principalities, powers, things present, things to come, height, depth — and says none of it can do it. He does not list those things to be poetic. He lists them because they were the fears of the people he was writing to.
Your history is somewhere in that list. What you have done is somewhere in that list. The places you have been are somewhere in that list. And the answer to all of it is the same: nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God.
The lie that you are too far gone is not a neutral thought. It has a function — to keep you from turning. If you believe the door is closed, you will not try it. The lie does not need to destroy you outright. It only needs to keep you from moving toward the One who can restore you.
The door is not closed. It has never been closed. It was opened at a price you did not pay, and that price does not expire based on what you did after it was paid.
Whatever brought you to this page — turn now. Not when you are cleaned up. Not when you have demonstrated enough remorse. Now. As you are. The love of God in Christ Jesus is not waiting for you to become worthy of it. It is waiting for you to receive it.
