A fearless and searching look at your own heart sounds terrifying, and it is — right up until you realize you are not doing it alone or to condemn yourself. You are inviting the God who already knows everything to walk through it with you and bring it into the light.
The flesh survives by staying hidden. Resentments, fears, the things done and the things done to you — kept in the dark, they keep their grip. Written down honestly before God, they lose it. Nothing you find on that list is bigger than the mercy you are bringing it to.
Ask Him to search you. He is not looking for a reason to leave. He is clearing the ground for what He is about to build.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.”— Psalm 139:23
