Humility has a bad reputation. People hear it and think weakness, or groveling. In recovery it means something far stronger: living without self-will running the show, taking the lower place on purpose, and trusting God to do the lifting.
The promise attached to it is not small. Humble yourselves, the Word says, and He shall lift you up. Not you lift yourself. Him. The posture that the flesh hates most — dependence — is the exact one God answers with His strength.
You do not have to claw your way back up. You have to get low enough for God to raise you.
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”— James 4:10
